Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1834 Small Date, Small Letters O-118 PCGS MS-62 (green label) CACCAC
Lot Number: 692
Description: Nicholas Jackson Collection. Overton-118 (R.4 more or less - some resources state R.3+), "small date, small letters". Repunched south, the date shows particularly bold remnants of the digit "3", most distinct due to the earlier dies. A phenomenally original example, moderate smoke-yellow patina endows most of the surface except for some dusky bluish grey at the rims, creating a nicely framed presentation. An interesting study suggests that the five tiny digs above "4" in the date are actually mint-made and were created by the ejecting mechanism used during the manufacture of the open-collar dies that struck the early half-dollars.
