Description: A.C.E. Collection. Mintage: 6430. 10 graded AU-55, 4 higher at NGC. Struck during Reconstruction from a very low emission, the 1869-S like so many tens of the era remains practically unknown at the UNC level today. Finer AU specimens are highly coveted since, even for a series not heavily collected, a paltry dozen or so make it into about-uncirculated grade levels. Possibly taken off the end of the run for 1869-S, this coin is not as prooflike as some, although hints of flashier texture still cling to some devices. The wider expanses of the fields display corn-yellow patina.
