Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1924-S PCGS MS-63
Lot Number: 770
Description: 75 graded MS-63, 223 higher at PCGS. By comparison to the 1926-S, which receives due accolades as a premier key to the series, 1924-S seems underrated given the comparable challenges at San Francisco with overused dies and substandard planchets. Indeed, these challenges plagued San Francisco for years as softly struck coins, like the present example, emerged from the dies. While substantially lustrous, both sides display extensive die erosion, most recognizable as pebbly texture at the bottom of the obverse and into the peripheral areas. Diagonal striations through the bison's shoulder indicate slight laminations, as is commonly seen. Some moderate toning plays over the surface, not at all to any detriment to visual appeal.
