Description: Breen-2514. Whether this is truly an overdate or a repunched 8 remains in dispute today, but at any rate, it would have been a highly unusual move for the mint to rehub the date from a prior year's dies in advance of proof strikings. Under a good lamp, the predominantly peach-grey surface reveals attractive magenta-rose, almond and teal hues over the slightly reflective fields. A lengthy strikethrough thread shows on the reverse in the lower right field.
