Description: Mintage: 600. 3 graded PR-67, 1 graded PR-67 star, zero higher at NGC. Briggs 2-B, doubled-die obverse. For some Philadelphia quarters, very low circulation strike emissions causes undue pressure on proof examples to pressed into services as mint-state representatives. The 1869 saw only 16-thousand pieces struck for circulation, of which a very limited number remain uncirculated, so this is one such coin that often shows up in a collector's series. This example could certainly serve well as a "motto" proof type as well, as it exudes marvelous beauty from the off-white surfaces, showing substantial cameo effect that just misses out on a designation.
