Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1901 Encased Cent, BU Red
Lot Number: 701
Description: GOOD LUCK whimsies almost always see use as pocket pieces and the coins therein typically get low-grade representation. Here is an example that stands head, shoulders and shamrocks above the competition since the 1901 cent encased appears to be a stunning GEM RED example, showing a mere smattering of greyish carbon speckles. Furthermore, the encasement itself, sponsored by MUEHLEBACH'S PILSENER (sic) BOTTLED BEER. Muehleback Brewing Company operated out of Kansas City, MO and was the largest in Kansas City for several years, only to be later acquired and ultimately shut down by Schlitz. The cataloger has seen only a couple of these, always in worn condition, and to witness an astonishing discovery like this makes anyone's day that much brighter, hence it well qualifies for the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
