Lot Title: 1873 Doubled Liberty FS-101, S-1 (009) PCGS AU details/environmental damage
Lot Number: 696
Description: The Bert Davies Collection. Snow-1, FS-101, early die-state. Prominent doubling of LIBERTY shows clearly, and the left edge of her portrait also displays comparable distortion. This hub-doubling variety was allegedly discovered by Breen in 1957, and since then, further study has led to the realization that there are separate die-states for Snow-1. The point here is, this is a very early die-state example as it lacks the die-crack often seen at the bottom of the date. PCGS suggests "environmental damage", but for the specialist, there are aspects which more important than just some third-party's grade considerations, and the "damage" isn't even all that noticeable.
