Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1794 Head of 1794 S-57 VF details/as described
Lot Number: 673
Description: Sheldon-57 identifies instantly once the "button", a small die defect at the lower left corner of the cap, has been identified. Several die-states have been studied for S-57, including a rare, early die-state I, and this example appears to fall somewhere between the prime and die-state II, with evidence of clashing barely visible above ICA on the reverse. That being said, porosity pretty thoroughly affects the entire surface and may make it more difficult to narrow down the exact die-state. Regardless, there is a plumb-plethora of details to be found given the sharpness of at least XF, and for the collector willing to step into a bargain on a dollars-per-detail coin, this darker representative is well worthy of inspection.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
