Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1895-S PCGS MS-64 CACCAC
Lot Number: 638
Description: J.S. Collection. 429 graded MS-64, 102 higher at PCGS. VAM-2 has a small tine protruding between a pair of denticles just above the right side of "U" in PLURIBUS. Perilously close to being fully struck, the three strands of hair over the ear barely miss perfection, which is hardly worth fretting since the coin boasts fabulous details everywhere else. Many collectors do not realize today that the 1895-S, elusive as it is in mint-state grades, would be far more rare if not for the thousand-plus pieces hoarded by LaVere Redfield. This may be such an example since the obverse displays cloud-white luster with tinges of peach toward the periphery, while the reverse is just about fully toned in circumferential teal-grey and honey-gold hues.
