Lot Title: 1799/8 15 Stars Reverse VF details/environmental damage
Lot Number: 512
Description: Walk The Plank Collection. Bolender-3, BB-141. Either end-cloud on the reverse was enlarged by the engraver so as to hide one star each, with the intent to reduce the incorrect placement of fifteen stars down to the correct thirteen. That time and effort were expended to address the error shows how important the symbolism was to the early mint officials. The cataloger's disclaimer of "environmental damage" sounds more harsh than the reality, as a couple of broad greyish streaks on the obverse merely form an unexpected distraction, still present because the coin has never been cleaned. All-natural patina layers over sharp upper-middle-grade details.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
