Description: Jamelle Collection. 26 graded MS-67, 1 graded MS-67 "star", zero higher at NGC. PCGS has graded zero higher than MS-67 as well. Regardless of how a collector feels about the dominance of third-party grading, NGC is not one to hand out the MS-67 grade lightly for the Saint-Gaudens series, and even the well-known "hoard" dates all have precious few representatives that qualify for the extremely high-grade "superb gem" assessment level. Here is what the ANA standard itself has to say about the MS-67 grade:

Has original luster and normal strike for date and mint. May have three or four very small contact marks and one more noticeable but not detracting mark. On comparable coins, one or two small single hairlines may show, or one or two minor scuff marks or flaws may be present. Eye appeal is above average.

The most subjective characteristic ascribed by the ANA standard is for above average eye-appeal, and a single glance is sufficient to warrant that this coin possesses tremendous eye-appeal. The extraordinary lack of contact marks and hairlines relieves the surface of any effort required to overcome such deficiencies, and instead, just pure, joyful ultra-frosty luster beams back to the viewer. Even with a loupe, the number of insignificant ticks that rest on Liberty's motif may be counted on one hand. Some interesting, faint die cracks linger over the far right side of the reverse, but in no way did they preclude an exemplary strike, right on the cusp of perfection. A cornerstone acquisition whether for type or date purposes and a coin can never be meaningfully improved upon, regardless.
