Lot #: Go
Lot Title: Canada - 1849-dated 1/4 G&L-40 (mislabeled) - NGC MS-66
Lot Number: 102
Description: Walk The Plank Collection. Greene&Locke-40 (NGC slab incorrectly states "G&L-20"). There is no "9K" at the truncation of the bust, although the same reverse die was used to strike the G&L-20 die-marriage. The Mike Locke and Ronald Greene references states that the dies have a rough surface, but they were actually polished and created crude fractional gold pieces with glittering surfaces, in the cataloger's admittedly amateur opinion. Here is an astounding example with exceedingly faint hairlines and a couple of microscopic darker spots that appear to be integral to the alloy.
Estimate: $1,000-$1,450
