Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1916-S NGC MS-64
Lot Number: 793
Description: Oklahoma Panhandle Collection. 138 graded MS-64, 79 higher at NGC. Central details reflect an unusually bold strike for 1916-S, as Liberty's thumb and forefinger are clearly distinguishable against her torso. The eagle's breast feathers show excellent delineation nearly all the way down her belly. As one might well expect from such a great strike, both sides feature terrific luster, frosty almond-white in appearance. Perhaps three very faint reed marks lurk in the obverse right field, but these hardly seem like an adequate reason to bar upgrade deliberation. For a first-of-type date, the 1916-S has a surprisingly low population at the MS-64 grade.
