Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1834 Small Date, Small Letters NGC MS-65
Lot Number: 778
Description: Overton-109. A triple denticle appears above and just right of the final "S" in STATES, and this is sufficient to verify the Overton variety. Splashes of Navy-blue and russet-orange accompany some mulberry and peach-gold iridescence distributed around both sides to create an interesting, if modestly uneven toning pattern. Both Liberty's and the eagle's portraits were powerfully impressed by the dies, creating incisive details around Liberty's lower tresses, although some upper curls reflect less precise engraving of the die. Nearly all of the stars are unusually well endowed with fine delineation, far from a given for 1834 half-dollars. Fabulous, sparkling luster windmills readily around either side, completing this portrait of "gem" bust half.
