Description: VAM-5, Hot-50 features a fairly prominent S/S mintmark, as well as an unfinished area within the bow, showing as minute parallel lines. Collecting by VAM is a popular pursuit, of course, but most collectors will simply be satisfied to locate such a nice 1896-S for the series, replete with significantly nicer luster than might be expected of the grade, as well as a bold, attractive ring of deep turquoise and tobacco-purple on each side. An exceedingly thin pin scratch travels into the front of Liberty's portrait, and a few other vague, wispy abrasions probably explain the grade.
