Lot Title: 1909-O NGC AU-58
Lot Number: 312
Description: 331 graded AU-58, 154 higher at NGC. THE great rarity within the Indian five-dollar compendium, 1909-O requires no background introduction for even casual observers of the series. Below the mint-state level, only 1929 challenges for supremacy as the key, depending upon what resources one chooses to believe. A curiously and greatly exaggerated bump in population at the AU-58 level tells the cataloger that this issue is often resubmitted for coveted mint-state status when found "nice" in the present grade.

The most apparent evidence of circulation may be the very slightly glossy texture seen on the highpoints. No detail has actually been lost to circulation, although light rub may be seen on the eagle's shoulder. As one might expect, much luster remains throughout, and several tiny speckles of very dark residue are embedded into the war bonnet, suggesting the coin has never been cleaned.
