Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1861-C PCGS AU details/altered surface
Lot Number: 297
Description: J.R. Collection. Mintage: 6879. Scarcely any wear shows at all and this appears to be a well struck example, especially considering the mint of origin. Only the eagle's neck and the first obverse star lack significant definition. PCGS claims "altered surface" but whatever it is that they saw remains difficult to discover. The only telltale sign appears to be that the color is unusually consistent and even from side to side, glowing with lemony hue and a trifle lackluster in appearance (the detail grade is only AU after all). Lightly abraded in isolated patches.
