Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1854-D Large D AU details/minor rim imperfection
Lot Number: 293
Description: J.R. Collection. Mintage: 39,200. Normal mintmark. Readily recognized as a scarcer Charlotte emission, the 1854-C is rated as the seventh rarest half-eagle by multiple references. Weak strikes are normal for the issue, but there appears to be a plethora of enticing details offered here, including better-than-expected separation between the curls that ascend from Liberty's ear. Even on the reverse, minor details emerge from the eagle's talons and the feathered ends of the arrows. Perhaps most startling of all, there appears to be a noticeable hint of prooflike character visible as the modestly frosted devices contrast with light reflectivity in the fields. The cataloger notes that both obverse and reverse rims seem curiously beveled, resulting in the offered disclaimer.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
