Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1891 $100 Fr# 344 - PMG VF-30
Lot Number: 28
Description: Of the thirty or so examples known for Fr# 344, at least half a dozen are in permanent collections, leaving very few available on the open market for collectors. The type features fifth President James Monroe in an engraved portrait that reflects his likeness during the Presidency. PMG suggests a grade of VF30, and that the note is "choice" in most respects can be seen right through the plastic. The paper offers pleasing color for that grade level and supports strong ink, with particularly deep, attractive grey at the denominations. Darker grey-brown toning at the upper right corner spills over to the back but provides minor distraction, and we note only three pinholes lingering near the bottom of the seal.
