Description: AU-58 seems to be the jumping-off point beyond which the classic 1911-D becomes considerably more expensive, and falls outside the wheelhouse of most collectors. For an example that PCGS doesn't consider mint-state, this is a great key representative. Both sides are struck very well, reflected by the "Strong D" commentary, and pronounced luster that remains in the fields. That the mintmark is "strong" cannot be denied, as it practically leaps off the reverse - highly unusual for a 1911-D quarter-eagle. Except for a curving abrasion drooping left of "L" in LIBERTY, the surface practically escapes contact, making this a particularly recommended choice for a collector who doesn't want to stretch deep into his wallet for an uncirculated specimen.
