Description: J.R. Collection. Mintage: 106. The 1893 as a proof typically shows up in cameo format, and formidable eye-appeal in this case gets a boost from the starkly glittering fields that form obvious contrast with the froth-textured devices. PCGS states "altered surface" although the alteration is not particularly obvious. Intricately struck as always for proof gold of the era, the cataloger did not discover any particular strikethrough that might serve as a pedigree marker, but an oblong contact mark just left of the final two stars might prove noteworthy. Delicately hairlined, the surfaces do possess remarkably even, unwavering lemon-gold coloration.
