Lot #: Go
Lot Title: $10 April 1, 1879 Fr# 214 - PMG VF-15/rust
Lot Number: 22
Description: These are always intriguing notes and were intended to offer middle-class citizens a means by which they could own government securities. The interest rate of 4% had no specified redemption date; thus many were retained until 1907, when interest was finally officially terminated. Because these remained in their owners' hands for so long, very few are high-grade today, and the present "Fine" (plus or minus) is highly representative of what typically appears on the market. Had the notes continued to accumulate interest, their representative value today would be more than $2400!
