Lot Title: 1907-S PCGS MS-64 CACCAC
Lot Number: 712
Description: The Mastodon Collection. S/S mintmark. 10 graded MS-64, 18 higher at PCGS. Regarded as minor varieties, the Barber half-dollar series contains many repunched mintmarks, and in this case, tiny nubs from the serif of a prior "S" can be seen perched atop the final mintmark positioning. This is all well and good, but what about the quality? The cataloger is happy to report that a nicer MS-64 would prove difficult to find. Sensational mint luster buzzes around the fields, and so white and bright is the surface that the half-dollar appears to have fallen off the dies three hours ago. Twin reed marks on the neck and another small nick on the cheek fall well within norms for the grade, as do a few light abrasions on the shield. As usual for this emission, the cheek shows few faint roller marks which play no role at all in affecting visual appeal.
