Lot Title: 1909-S VDB Lincoln PCGS MS-66RB
Lot Number: 592
Description: Nearly staggering in quality, this is an utterly exquisite example of the very famous key to the Lincoln cent series. Blistering copper-red luster radiates from the fields and rolls up against, then over the phenomenally struck details. In every sense, the quality is superb for this treasure. Picky collectors will note up to three or four microscopic flyspecks, but if that's all one can complain about, then there is nothing to complain about at all! As will be obvious from the first glance, color leans far closer to full red than brown, yet has mellowed enough to make sense for the proper "red-brown" designation. The mere phrase "1909-S VDB" has nearly taken on its own magic as a catchphrase for collectors of the U.S. series, and when that combines with inimitable quality, one has an outstanding recipe for the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award.
