Lot Title: 1886-O NGC MS-63 (no line) CACCAC
Lot Number: 421
Description: Captain Jack Collection. 321 graded MS-63, 80 higher (all MS-64) at NGC. As has oft been told, the 1886-O represents one of the extreme examples of "grade rarity" within the series. NGC shows not a single "gem" or better example in the non-prooflike population report. Yet the coin is very common in the AU grades and exists in large numbers below that, showing that it survived in vast quantities. Regardless, some speculate that "new" examples suffered poor luster upon striking, but that is far from the case here. This example surpasses all reasonable expectations of MS-63, as it shows a great strike (seriously, it borders upon a full strike), fabulous cartwheel luster, and excellent optics. At minimum, lovely amber-gold toning pervades the rim, joined in many areas by lovely album colors: teal, turquoise and cinnamon-gold. A stunner (for the date) to be sure, and in one of the best holders out there (the venerable NGC "no line").
