Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1861 PCGS MS-64
Lot Number: 206
Description: The Mastodon Collection. 36 graded MS-64, 12 higher at PCGS. Evidently completely struck, even the individual stars on the obverse have been fully defined, with not a single one lacking complete segmentation. Hair strands over the ear run the full length of their delineation, and on the reverse, the arrow shafts erupt fully, right down to the middle of each arrowhead. If there is a more nicely struck 1861, the cataloger has not seen it.

Gorgeous, dusky golden hue belies a few light hairlines that dash across either side. In any case, the luster is not the least bit impacted as rolling, frosty texture undulates around and over all of the devices. The surface remains amazingly free from abrasions, speaking to outstanding preservation from day one.
