Lot Title: 1893 VAM-3 PCGS MS-65
Lot Number: 445
Description: Baronet Collection. 266 graded MS-65, 29 higher at PCGS. Repeal of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act during the "Panic of 1893" had a rippling effect that reached the mint in the form of depressed demand for silver coinage, and therefore reduced production of silver dollars. This in turn explains why 1893 issues from all the mints are considered keys. Even Philadelphia struck only 378,000 examples for the date, and true gem examples, while not rare, are certainly far more elusive than emissions of just three years later. Untoned and starkly beautiful, intense luster booms of the present example, unfettered by any sort of surface patination. Two or three sharper marks nearly blend within the intricacies of the eagle's left (observed) wing, but leave the balance of either side practically free from all but the most minute blemishes. A great strike only entreats further examination, which leads the collector to discover a world of details, just barely shy of perfection with a couple of slightly blended curls over the ear.
