Lot Title: 1924 NGC MS-66
Lot Number: 319
Description: The 1924 Saint is not rare even at the MS-66 level, yet this is an example that offers something far bigger than a mere "number". Your favorite cataloger suggests that this coin is close to prooflike in appearance, not so much because of field reflectivity but because of unexpected cameo characteristics. Liberty's torso plainly shows matte sheen, akin to the texture seen on sunken-relief gold motifs, while the obverse fields are especially bright and flashy (for a Saint). It isn't so easy to explain, and interested bidders are fervently advised to check out this visually arresting beauty. A series of minute, bright little ticks veer off right from beneath Liberty's upraised foot, while a few tiny abrasions scatter to limited extent across the reverse. Due to the nearly complete lack of prooflike Saints, this one takes a place within the archives of the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award. Enjoy.
