Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1909-S PCGS MS-62
Lot Number: 960
Description: Upside down "S". 11 graded MS-62, 70 higher at PCGS. Soft, slate-grey patina endows most of the surface and suddenly gives way to pleasing, mossy olive toning within the obverse periphery. This side appears to grade fully "choice", all by itself. The reverse is not as evenly toned, as several oval shaped darker patches infiltrate the honey-gold and grey patina. Tougher than the population statistics might imply, the 1909-S appears to be an undervalued date within the popular Barber half-dollar series, and the present example shows a mintmark with the top loop larger than the bottom, hence the so-called "upside down" mintmark.
