Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1862 PCGS MS-66 CACCAC
Lot Number: 760
Description: U.K. Lorgnettes Collection. 1862/1, FS-301, although PCGS failed to indicate the overdate on the slab (a maddening inconsistency observed with both grading services). Were it not for a separate listing in the Redbook, it might not matter whether the overdate were present or not, but because of the awful inconsistency in separating normal dates from their overdate brethren, the grading services have provided a great disservice in that it is impossible to know which is truly the scarcer, and at what level. At any rate, this splendid, strongly clashed example is thoroughly awash in frosty almond-silver luster that percolates along the surface and practically jumps up at the viewer. It's quite unusual to see so much wonderful sparkling luster on such a tiny coin, and what little light toning there is seems to be relegated to the reverse.
