Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1832 PCGS MS-61BN (shield)
Lot Number: 683
Description: 9 in MS-61BN and 176 higher at PCGS. This 1832 half-cent is one of those coins that is altogether more interesting than its MS-61 grade would suggest. The first thing that sets this coin apart is deep maroon-red toning on the obverse and orange-red toning on the reverse. This sort of color is not often seen on copper. The second feature that must be noted is the incredibly strong strike (especially on the obverse). All of the stars are delineated and the detail in Liberty's hair almost makes you wonder if proof dies where involved. Finally, the lusterful reverse has very interesting doubling that gets very extreme at times. Take a look at the F in HALF and the D in UNITED (ls).
