Lot Title: Germany - 1922 500 mark, Danzig, Senate of the Municipality - Free City. PMG ChCU-64
Lot Number: 63
Description: J. Mainstream Collection. Pick-14. The PMG holder insert proclaims "Danzig, Senate of the Municipality - Free City", but in fact, Danzig was a semi-independent city-state only between 1920 and 1939. It was created by terms of the Treaty of Versailles (1919), and at the time, included nearly 200 towns resting on the border of the Baltic Sea, between Poland and the German Empire. Beautiful margins surround this 500-marks note, which boasts attractive ink and strongly evocative, Germanic motifs. Notes from Danzig are popular with world collectors, and many are expensive in high grade, the 500-mark being comparably attainable.
