Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1878-CC GSA PCGS MS-64 CACCAC
Lot Number: 392
Description: VAM-27 can take a lot of time to attribute, being one of the last VAMs for 1878-CC, but to shortcut the process, notice a die chip on the eyelid (also found on VAM-14A and VAM-2A), and a couple of slightly subtle die gouges in the eagle's right (observed) wing. These narrow down to the present die-marriage, evidently incorporating later use of the dies if the fine peripheral die cracks on the reverse are any indication. Frosty and off-white, with a smattering of central grey on the obverse, this example features an extraordinary, pinpoint accurate strike, showing carefully delineated hair strands over the ear and complete definition within the ribbon (albeit, the details are slightly smeared by minute contact ticks). A vibrant and lusty example with some "Gem" qualifications.
