Lot Title: 1907 High Relief-Flat Rim PCGS MS-63
Lot Number: 315
Description: Mintage: 12,367. 970 graded MS-63, 1462 higher at PCGS. The population statistics here are not intended to emphasize the rarity of the 1907 "high relief" double-eagle, but rather the opposite - to reinforce the vast quantity that has been certified, with more than 6000 submissions between the two services representing half the original (disputed) emission. Yet, who could possibly dispute the assertion that the 1907 in high relief remains one of our nation's most popular, desirable and beautiful issues, when HALF of them have been submitted for certification?

An important aspect of the appeal of the present, correctly-graded "choice mint-state" example stems from the fact that the obverse is in slightly better condition than the reverse, as there are very few abrasions to be found on the former, more important side. Indeed, the cataloger can only find a fewer than a handful of shallow ticks straying across Liberty's torso, and trivial abrading flung far into the left field. On the reverse, the eagle's motif seems to be relatively free from contact, but a few light handling marks linger across the sun's lower rays. Nice, medium golden hue takes on only the most subtle orange overtones under full spectrum lighting, and of course, this is an amazingly well struck coin, beaming with high relief texture demanded of the dies.
