Description: J.P. Estate Consignment. Mintage: 5,000. 3 graded XF-45, 12 higher at PCGS. The cataloger is aware of but a single coin certified at the mint-state level (MS-60), so for all intents and purposes, 1860-S is one of the extremely rare dates that cannot practically be located much nicer than the present "choice extremely fine" level. A reasonable estimate would be that 40 exist in all grades, making it a true key date within the Liberty eagle series. Rich, deep russet-gold embraces the surface, with some hints of deeper carrot-gold accents within the protected areas. Only the reverse retains any semblance of luster, and even then, it is isolated to the extreme peripheral areas that have been least affected by circulation rub. Sharply struck throughout.
