Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1838 PCGS AU-55
Lot Number: 213
Description: M. Diatom Collection. McCloskey-1A has a small 5 in the denomination, but more importantly, the large arrows on the reverse distinguish it from the much scarcer "small arrows reverse" type. The points of several stars are nicely recut, particularly for the final two stars. Strike quality for this die-marriage tends to be quite nice, with this a particularly bold example struck with fully delineated hair strands, and complete segments at the eagle's talons. Only a little time in circulation has blurred the most frail details. Radiant canary-yellow picks up a considerable amount of luster and the persnickety observer will notice very fine matte frost clinging up next to the devices.
