Description: The Quantum Collection. 136 graded MS-62, 401 higher at NGC. PCGS has certified about twice as many mint-state 1895-S dollars as NGC, but the population report of both shows, somewhat ludicrously, that the grade of MS-62 has been certified FEWER times than MS-63 or MS-64 - at BOTH services! And given that the sheer number claimed by the census completely conflicts with the actual market availability, one thing becomes abundantly clear: UNC examples are frequently resubmitted for upgrade attempts, and the large number of MS-63 and MS-64 examples shown are mostly the result of coins failing upgrade multiple times. But, we digress. For the present piece, the obverse displays a lovely blanket of orange color, nearly even overall, but mottled slightly by delicate flashes of purple and silvery iridescence. The reverse is mostly white. It really does look like an MS-63 example, likely held back by NGC due to a modest scrape in front of Liberty's forehead. Well struck and as lustrous as any choice example.
