Lot Title: 1879-CC Capped Die PCGS MS-62 (shield)
Lot Number: 437
Description: Mike Hurt Collection. VAM-3 has the famous (or infamous) "capped die" reverse, showing die chips around the mintmark, and in this early die-state, there is no evidence of die clashes, nor is the "G" in GOD filled. Although this is an especially lustrous example, the MS-62 grade inevitably draws to attention the lightly abraded surface quality of each side, with a fair number of tiny contact marks strewn across the pale silver canvas. Fragile olive-gold patina has tried to seize hold of some protected areas of the surface, but the coin generally faces up as bright white.
