Description: M. Diatom Collection. Bass-Dannreuther-2, R.3 has the same obverse as BD-1, but on the reverse, the bottom point of the arrow nock rests over the center of the flag of the "5" below. The attractive sunset-gold hue is what helps elevate the present AU-50 example to an excellent level of eye-appeal, with the grade already determined by extensive luster and unexpectedly strong details. Indeed, the grade assigned almost seems about five points too low, although PCGS may have silently netted the final assessment based on numerous brief adjustment marks on the extreme left margin and over portions of the portrait. Closer scrutiny reveals hints of residue on the reverse, suggesting the need for proper conservation.
