Lot Title: 1871 NGC MS-66 Star CACCAC
Lot Number: 209
Description: Mintage: 3,900. 1 graded MS-66 "star" (this coin), 6 higher (none with "stars") at NGC. Collectors have long recognized that the very low mintage era of gold dollars provides some of the nicest gold coins possible, generally at price levels that are at least approachable to many type specialists. As the only "star" designated gold dollar for 1871, it is no mistake to say that this might be the prettiest example in existence, even with a handful of others in numerically higher grade. Examination quickly reveals that the fully semi-prooflike appearance and exquisite contrast led to NGC's special designation, and the surface has been preserved virtually to a flawless level. An absolutely premium example, replete with lovely, consistently even butterscotch-gold color and a fabulous strike.
