Lot Title: Four gold love tokens
Lot Number: 1012
Description: Collector appeal: A+. This quartet of gold love tokens absolutely MUST be seen by those who truly appreciate this fringe area of numismatics. First is an 1880 $5 "CAJ" (?), this example heavily used and showing signs of long-term appreciation by its previous owner. Next is an undated $3 "RP", the initials enameled in cobalt blue, with "August 3, 1886" inscribed below. Third is 1872 $2.50 "MBW" enameled in unusual pastel blue with extensive ornamentation. Finally, a gold dollar (?) has "MAH" inscribed and enameled in three different colors on one side, and TOLINA 1886 / CHRISTMAS inscribed on the other, beautifully ornamented by depictions of plants on the dated side. A fantastic lot for the "engraved token" collector!

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
