Lot Title: 1908-S PCGS MS-64 (green label) CACCAC
Lot Number: 929
Description: Shawl Consignment. 15 graded MS-64, 17 higher at PCGS. Gem examples are downright rare for 1908-S, which is one of the scarcest late-date entries in the Barber half-dollar series, so there is intense market interest in finer MS-64 examples. Nothing could be more true of the present well-struck specimen as it displays notably contact-free surfaces and outstanding, vintage surface patina. Graphite-grey generally diffuses the robust luster, creating a lovely, shimmering effect outside the peripheral stars, and while significant chartreuse-gold and pumpkin-olive colors quiver into the fields, the reverse utterly sparkles with the same shades and adds in ocean-grey and magenta iridescence for good measure. Three irregular but tiny contact points on the portrait likely curb enthusiasm for upgrade, but this remains a premier example at the grade and will prove exceptionally desirable within the PCGS green-label holder.
