Description: 64 graded MS-60, 360 higher at NGC (certainly inflated by resubmissions). Price guides frankly exaggerate the value of the 1884-S in AU grades, but at any worthy mint-state level, the date becomes the very definition of 'grade rarity'. Unc examples are terribly elusive, and even the basal MS-60 grade will command respect in an auction setting. Ample luster revolves within the fields beneath a blanket of butterscotch toning, while central areas of the obverse must be interpreted beneath a slightly denser layer of greyish patina. This disguises the presence of a few brief hairlines on the cheek.
